OAK LAWN ROTARY

COMMUNITY CENTENNIAL PROJECTS

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROTARY!  TO CELEBRATE YOUR 100TH YEAR, THE OAK LAWN ROTARY IS GIVING YOU TWO GIFTS, SHOWING YOU THAT "SERVICE ABOVE SELF" IS INDEED ALIVE AND WELL IN OUR CLUB!!

PROJECT 1:

Past President, Dave Kobak met with the Village of Oak Lawn officials in 2002 because he had an idea.  He wanted to celebrate in a big way, a large way, to get the name of Rotary "out there." The club endorsed this idea unanimously!  He thought...  "LET'S DESIGN A VEHICLE STICKER DEPICTING THE ROTARY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND HAVE IT ON EVERY VEHICLE IN OAK LAWN."  The village officials embraced the idea enthusiastically and were very happy to give us their full support.  Beginning in June 2004, vehicle stickers went on sale.  There are approximately 37,000 stickers which will be put on the windshields of every vehicle which "resides"in Oak Lawn.  This idea has the potential of reaching thousands of people as these cars, trucks, and motorcycles travel all over the city, state, and country.

Thank you Mayor Ron Stancik, Village Clerk Jayne Powers, and Village Manager Joe Faber for helping us to celebrate the Rotary Centennial.

PROJECT 2:

In order to serve our community in the traditional way of Rotary and practicing the "Service Above Self" motto of Rotary, we have chosen to assist

in a renovation and remodeling project to one of the resident facilities for Park Lawn Association.  Park Lawn is an organization for developmentally disabled persons.  They have multiple locations in the south suburbs of Chicago. Their main business facility is located at 10833 S. LaPorte in Oak Lawn.

The facility which will undergo the renovations is located at 115th & Central in Alsip.  This is a two-story, 41- bed, 24-hour care unit.  Oak Lawn Rotary, along with some other organizations will be helping to fund this 5,000,000.00 project.  Our club has pledged to give Park Lawn a total of $10,000.00 to aid in their efforts.  We have already held an art auction and sold raffle tickets to help fund this project.  Groundbreaking took place on September 16, 2005.  See photos.
